terrible angels

i came across the term 'terrible angels' a few years ago, and immediately became fascinated by it.
the original reference was a song by Cocorosie called 'Terrible Angels', and later on i found more and more refrences and information about this term. the first (as far as i know) to have used this term was the German poet and novelist Rainer Maria Rilke. The angel appeares in Rilke's Duino Elegies, and is described as a perfect and immortal creature, and as such he doesnt have to cope with the knowing that death is innavidable - a coping that prevents human beings to live life to their fullest.

terrible angels are magnificent things that constantly remind us of our defects. they are things we want but we'll never have.

my terrible angels are not a specific thing nor a specific person. they are everywhere and in everyone.
